Boise, Idaho, March 21, 2018 — Tesla Motors Inc. today announced it will offer its second-sale guarantee guarantee to buyers on Model S and Model X.
The first-sale guarantees were available on the Model S.
The guarantees include a 15% discount on the first two months of lease for any customer who pays the initial $9,500 in the first year.
Tesla will also offer the guarantee on all future leased vehicles.
The company will also provide customers with an option to buy directly from Tesla Motors directly from a Tesla dealer.
The Model S guarantee comes in the wake of an uproar from some Tesla Model 3 owners who said they were concerned that the Model 3 lease guarantee might be insufficient because the company would not reimburse them for the cost of the Model X lease.
The issue also raised the question of whether Tesla would be required to reimburse customers for the costs of their Model 3 leases.
Tesla shares rose about 4% in premarket trading after the announcement.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who will speak at the annual International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week, is expected to address the issue at the event.
Tesla’s Model S program was the subject of a wide-ranging Senate probe into how the company handles leases.
The company has faced pressure to disclose more information about its leases, but it has resisted at least in part.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
