A new Tesla Model S sedan with a guaranteed second-generation version of the company’s second-gen battery technology is available to Chinese customers, at a price of approximately $25,000 (£20,000).
Teslas second-gear battery packs are designed to operate at higher temperatures and require more energy to produce the same energy output as their regular versions.
The company says it has been able to make the range of the batteries available to the Chinese market by providing them with its own technology.
The batteries, which Tesla says can store more than 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy, can be bought in limited quantities in limited markets such as China, the US and Europe.
Teslas battery packs have also been available in China, which has a high demand for electric vehicles, and India, where the country’s government has approved a nationwide rollout of the electric vehicles.
