Electric car company Tesla Motors has unveiled a guarantee for its secondhand cars, offering the customers a guaranteed second-hand price for their vehicles, and promising to deliver the vehicles in the shortest time possible.
Tesla says that the guarantee will be offered for cars in the Model S, X, and Model 3 line, and for other models in the coming months.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Chief Product Officer JB Straubel will deliver the announcement during a live webcast on March 20 at 1:30pm EST, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
The guarantee will give Tesla customers the ability to reserve a car for the entire car-buying cycle, instead of just one week, and will also allow customers to reserve vehicles for the first week of the new year, Tesla said.
This guarantee also means that customers will have the ability for the Model 3 and Model S vehicles to be delivered at a time they want to, rather than after the first weekend of December.
Tesla promises to deliver at least five times as many Model 3s and six times as much Model S cars than it has currently in production.
The company said it will continue to deliver vehicles at full capacity throughout the year.
Tesla has a fleet of about 3,600 Model 3 cars, while the Model 2 fleet has just a few hundred vehicles.
Tesla says the guarantee comes as part of the company’s efforts to address the increasing number of secondhand vehicle purchases in the United States.
The announcement comes a day after Tesla announced that it would begin shipping the Model X in December.
